What the world has been waiting for since the reveal back in June. HMBalmaination hits stores tomorrow and every man, woman and child appears to be eager to get their hands on this line. I myself was so interested in this whole campaign, that I actually used it as a main point during one of my presentations about ‘What motivates people to buy brands?’. I discussed social media and celebrity culture influence on consumers when choosing what brands they want to wear and be seen in. It made a big impact on little old me, but worldwide there was a media frenzy with the notion that fans of Balmain and all of it’s Ambassadors will finally be given a chance to get their hands on these amazing designs.
Olivier Rousteing the Creative Director of Balmain had this to say about the collaboration;
“H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain get a piece of the dream and create a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fuelled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me: H&M is a brand that everybody connects to. It calls for unity, and I am all for it”
After that unbelievable launch in NYC back in October, it would be hard to not want to be a part of all this. Top models including Kendall, Jourdan Dunn, Gigi Hadid, Dudley O’Shaughnessy and Joan Smalls all walked the runway alongside Mr. Rousteing on the night. With dance performances and Backstreet Boys on stage, it really did look like the place to be, I was very jealous of everyone there on the night. The clothes of course being the main event with gorgeous embellished pieces, gold & black patterns and an array of beautiful textures like feathers, sequins and velvet. The models in these outfits screamed luxury and importance in this line which will land just in time for the Christmas party season ahead. Clever Balmain.
All looks good, right? But hang on, how much will it actually cost us to get a piece of this historic launch? Well it won’t be cheap, some items being €100+, pocket-money to people like myself… (Not really). I may be a little naive in saying this, but I genuinely thought it was going to be more affordable? The whole thing was marketed so that the world would now be able to look like Ms. Jenner, Ms. Dunn and Mr. Rousteing at the Billboard Awards 2015. That world obviously still being those with a significant amount of money to spare on luxury H&M clothes. Don’t get me wrong, if I wasn’t in the midst of a saving frenzy and had a little bit more cash in the bank, I would be there tomorrow alongside all the fans and fashionistas in Dublin. But sadly I don’t have the funds and instead I’ll be attending lectures and then working in the evening.
And by the way, THAT embellished jacket that Kendall Jenner wore. You can get it, if you have a spare €420 or so.
