Rimmel is definitely my favourite makeup go to after MAC products. Most of my day time wear is made up of a little bit of both and I choose Rimmel simply because it’s affordable but also does the job! I like to see what I can get without breaking the bank, as I’m sure most students can related to. Recently I picked up a few bits just to give them a try and as per usual I was happy with the outcome. There were two new skin products that I found in Boots which I wanted to try and I also decided to buy a mascara and lipstick to compare to the ones I currently use.
I think this is the answer to a day to day ‘MAC Strobe Cream’. If like me you hate wasting expensive products on normal day looks where you aren’t going anywhere important but still want your skin to look nice, the answer is this new highlighter. Similar to Strobe Cream you can use this before or with your foundation for an extra glowy look. It really makes a difference and at €7 you don’t feel bad using it generously day to day. I would definitely buy this again to use daily and save my MAC for night time looks or important events. My boyfriend even commented that I looked noticeably glowier when questioned…
Combined with the highlighter above, this was also a lovely product on my skin and I felt it was pretty full coverage. I applied both this and the previous product with my fingertips as it was very liquidy and I personally get better results using my fingers to apply foundation when it’s in liquid form. Definitely not a natural finish on my skin anyway but as I said very dewy and a good glow. I use the shade ‘Soft Beige’ which suits my skin quite well as I’m pale on the face but still have a tan remaining from summer on my body, so there was no need to use bronzer when using this product.
The only mascara I ever use is from Rimmel. They’re hands down the best mascaras around and I’d rate them any day over Benefit or MAC. I usually have one or two of the large wand mascaras in my makeup bag, from SCANDAL EYES XX-TREME to WONDER’FULL, anything that Rimmel has had to offer with a wide wand, I’ve probably owned. I have thick and curly lashes which have always responded well to thick wands but I wanted to try something different. So while in boots I see EXTRA 3D LASH and decide to try it out. And boy am I glad I did. While it does just fine on my upper lashes, it works wonders on the bottom row. I’ve always had a silly problem in thinking my bottom lashes were too long and whenever I applied mascara I would get random length spider legs which made me look not-so-attractive. This has all been resolved since finding my new best friend that is the 3D Lash mascara. The slender little wand applies the right amount of mascara to my little lashes and you can get right underneath without smudging.
So before I started investing my time and funds into quality and unavoidably expensive makeup, the only lipstick I owned was by Rimmel. Infact they were all the Kate Moss range too. I still have about 9 shades in my lipstick collection, none of which I still use. Since progressing on to MAC I’ve never looked back. But on the hunt for something I could apply for example: work where I don’t feel like wasting precious Blankety on customers who don’t tip, I decided to give Rimmel another chance. I was keen to try Ms. Moss’s newest shade range : Lasting Finish Nude Collection, which sadly wasn’t there when I was in Boots. So I decided to go for a classic and here’s where the problem lies; there aren’t many nice colours to choose from. I opted for shade 03 which was the only nude one and to be fair, it is quite nice. But everything else is some sort of shade of pink, red or purple which don’t interest or suit me at the moment. I find the quality of the lipsticks up to standard but sadly the choice in shades is very limited, or at least not to my personal taste.
