This is one of the nicest places I have been to in Amsterdam so far. Not only did CAU surpass the service standards of anywhere that I’ve been to in this city, but the food was also de-li-cious. While my three lovely lady friends were visiting me here, I wanted to take them somewhere nice for some brunch in Amsterdam (as nice girls tend to do). It was a lovely start to the day, beautiful food and lovely staff. I cannot wait to return.

The Food

The food here was absolutely delicious. We were a little bit hungover so we got ourselves a lot of lovely things including some smoothies and coffees. Two of us ordered the ‘Latin Eggs, grilled avocado, toasted muffins, poached eggs, fresh hollandaise and a drizzle of chimichurri’ (€9). Both with extra bacon of course. Which was only €1.50! Some places charge crazy amounts for add ons, but not these guys.Personally, it was one of the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had, the sauce was really creamy, the eggs were perfectly runny and the avocado was really fresh.

Hannah went with the ‘Eggs Royale, hot-smoked salmon, poached eggs, toasted muffins, fresh hollandaise and a drizzle of chimichurri’ (€9) and yes she had extra bacon too – it had to be done! Finally, one of the girls ordered the ‘Stack of Pancakes (€7) with extra smoked bacon & syrup (€1). As you can see below, it looks so tasty and it tasted just as good as it looks!

Considering the service, the ambience and the quality of the food – this place is pretty cheap! We were happy to take them up on the offers of more drinks seeing as everything was such a fair price and all very tasty.

Overview of the Restaurant

CAU is a lovely little restaurant. It was very busy when we went there on a Saturday morning, but it was a pleasant kind of buzz. I (mostly) enjoy being places that are busy, because it’s a fairly good indicator that people love the place. As I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again – the staff here were really great. Unfortunately, I now know that good service is hard to find in Amsterdam so coming here completely surpassed my expectations.

We were greeted at the door by some sort of Host/ Maître d’/ Manager who did not mind that we had an extra person eating with us (she surprised me too!) The waiters looked busy, but still gave us the right amount of attention which is what I like when going for food. Another plus for me was when one of the dishes was a bit delayed, they came and told us straight away. We were completely fine with it because they let us know, that’s all that matters really to me. I can’t stand when people just leave you sitting around wondering what’s going on. They kept us in the loop, kept the situation positive and at the end our waiter even took a photo of us with my mysterious contraption aka my camera. Fair play to them.

CAU Restaurant - Brunch in Amsterdam - Bekah Molony

The restaurant is located right in the heart of everything. Literally a stone’s throw from Dam Square, this is the best location for brunch in Amsterdam if you plan on doing all the touristy stuff afterwards. As always, I have a left a little map down below so you can see just how close it is to everything. I would 104% recommend this place for so many reasons. Delicious (and Instagram worthy) food, perfect service, convenient location and really affordable.
